Beihai Customs Destroys 15.7 Tons of "Foreign Waste"
On July 25, Beihai Customs disposed of a number of electronic "foreign garbage" suspected of smuggling into the country harmlessly. Beihai Customs commissioned Guangxi Resources Circulation Industry Co., Ltd. to dismantle and recycle these "foreign garbage" and invited Nanning Eco-environment Bureau to supervise the whole process of disposal
According to the customs anti-smuggling police, "foreign garbage" is commonly known as imported solid waste, electronic "foreign garbage" mainly includes discarded electrical appliances and electronic equipment. It has been confirmed by the solid waste appraisal agency that the batch of electronic "foreign waste" totals 15.7 tons, mainly involving used ticket machines, power adapters, mobile phone motherboards, computer dismantling parts and so on. It belongs to the solid waste prohibited from importation in China.
Electronic "foreign garbage" contains a large number of toxic and harmful substances. If it is not treated by professional classification, it will cause harmful substances to infiltrate into the underground, resulting in soil and groundwater pollution. Although the state explicitly prohibits the import of "foreign garbage", lawbreakers still attempt to smuggle foreign untreated electronic garbage into the country by means of concealment, entrainment and smuggling.
